About Me – The Editor

Welcome to the world of microstructures, where the smallest details can have the biggest consequences.

I have spent more than 30 years working in this field and it has been a very interesting journey. Along the way I have founded two companies, with one successful exit, served as a Director of the International Hologram Manufacturers Association in the United Kingdom, and been President of the Authentication Solution Provider’s Association.

I write these articles for three simple reasons. First, to explain complex micro optical technology in plain language for the people who sign the cheques as well as the people who run the machines. Second, to share what has actually worked in real factories rather than what looks good on conference slides. Third, to give a practical view of where this field is heading so that brand owners, printers, investors and engineers can make better decisions with fewer surprises.

Why am I qualified to talk about it. Over the past three decades I have worked with holograms, microlens films, UV resins and custom machinery for security printing and brand protection in Europe, India, the Middle East and North America. I have sat in boardrooms discussing strategy and stood on production floors at three in the morning trying to work out why a line will not run. That mix of technical detail and commercial reality is what I try to bring into my writing.

I am always pleased to hear from readers. You may wish to

• share your thoughts or feedback on the blog
• contribute an article and share your expertise
• request an interview
• or simply connect for a straightforward conversation

I am based in London and happy to meet, think things through together and exchange ideas over a pint.
